Prospect of Bedugul Geothermal ,Bali

Bali Energy Limited (BEL) has drilled 3 exploration wells, drilled 6 temperature core hole wells, tested production wells and studied several geosceinces and the development of the Bedugul field,  shows that the prospect is very good and can be developed up to 175 MW with good development management and according to field characteristics.

BEL has conducted exploration activities by performing 200 point Resistivity Magnetotelluric (MT) and Gravity surveys, and drilled six temperature gradient core holes (TCH) to the depths of 1600 m. BEL obtained aerial photograph of the prospect area for better understanding of the Bedugul field as well. TCH-04 identified an area of very high temperature (243°C) at depth of 1607 m in the north eastern part of the central prospect. Based on the evaluation of these surveys and results of the slim holes, BEL then drilled three exploration wells (BEL-01, BEL-02 and BEL-03).

Geological resource reviews have all projected roughly a median estimate (50% probable) of 350-400 MW of geothermal production for 30 years with a minimum reserve estimate (90% probable) of 160 MW+ for 30 years. Under the Energy Sales Contract, (ESC) and its amendments BEL also has the right to sell all the generated electricity to Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN). Under the terms and agreements stated in the JOC and ESC, the total capacity of 175 MW shall be generated in Unit-1 (10 MW) followed by Unit 2, 3 and 4 with capacity of 55 MW each.

Although geothermal energy is well known as both a non-fossil renewable resource and a green environmental impact resource, the small unit power plant shall be developed first as a pilot project before developing the big scale (55 MW) units at Bedugul-Bali. This is to demonstrate to the local community that the geothermal power plant will have minimal environmental impact by reducing carbon emissions while providing economic benefits for the people of Bedugul and the entire Bali Province.
