Indonesia’s geothermal sector has vast potential and is expected to play a significant role in reducing Indonesia’s greenhouse gas emissions. To achieve the government’s target of 23% renewable energy mix by 2025 requires contributions from geothermal development of about 7% or equal to 7,000 MW. In addition to utilizing rich geothermal resources, the geothermal power plant project is in line with the Government’s goal where the Bedugul Geothermal Project can contribute up to 175 MW of electricity.

Bali Energy Limited (BEL) is the exclusive contractor of the Bedugul Geothermal Field for 30 years under the Joint Operation Contract (JOC) and Energy Sales Contract (ESC) with PERTAMINA and PLN. BEL has drilled 6 temperature gradient core holes (TCH) and 3 exploration wells. and Bedugul Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) is expected to immediately produce and contribute to meeting the electricity demand in Bali Province.

BEL is committed to establishing a program to serve the local communities in Tabanan and all of Bali. In 2020, BEL was joined by the local religious leader held series of sacred Hindu ceremonies at the PLTP Area in order to offer a prayer to cleanse and protect the sacred forest in Bedugul from the PLTP project.

Ultimately, our goal is for the Bedugul Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) project to help improve the local economy by not only providing clean energy but also creating job opportunities for the residents. We believe that as one of the most recognized world tourist destinations, Bali province has great potential to utilize geothermal energy — greenhouse heating, agricultural crop drying, and hot springs just to name a few potential applications.

We will continue to strive for environmentally sustainable economic growth achieved through the collaboration with the local community, supported by smooth operations and partnership with the government.  Our preserving the local environment and reducing the carbon footprint will go hand in hand with the government’s initiative to provide safe, reliable and eco-friendly electricity. Also, we are aligned with Bali provincial government’s direction (Eg. Governor Regulation no. 45 of 2019 concerning Bali Clean Energy and No. 48 of 2019 concerning The Use of Electric Vehicles).

We thank all the stakeholders and partners especially the Indonesian government and Bali’s local communities for their guidance and support in helping us build a value-focused and energized enterprise.
